Did you know your score is 100%!
Yep! You are at the very top of your game! You have won every single time! Your score is absolutely perfect!
I'm talking about the fact that you have gotten through every single one of your challenges thus far! Every risk you have ever taken, every challenge you have ever faced, you have made it through to the best of your ability!
Maybe things didn't turn out the way you wanted them too, maybe they put you in really crappy situations and you're not so proud of the way things turned out but there's no doubt that you got through them, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this.
When it comes to life, there is a certain element of risk taking we need to go through. Some situations are out of our control and we're going to want to avoid them at all cost! Other situations are exciting, unexpected and yet welcomed!
No matter the situation though, you're going to assess the pros and cons and every other logical outcome possible. It's human nature! It's what we do and you are going to ultimately base your decision on that logic! Now this can be a good thing... at times. The ability of an individual to think in a disciplined manner or base their thoughts on facts and evidence is essential when coming up with a solution. Except one!
And this is what I want to talk to you about today.
Goals and why you need to take risks when setting them!
Maybe you've heard of S.M.A.R.T. goals? In my opinion, those are THE WORST goals you could set for yourself! Specific and Time-bound, okay yes, you want to be specific and set a date, those are actually imperative! But Measurable, Attainable and Realistic... FORGET THEM, because you are dealing with infinite potential!
Yes! You have infinite potential!
When setting a goal, a worthy goal, one that will push you to do something you've never done before, one that you have no idea how you're going to accomplish, there needs to be an element of fear, doubt and worry!
And the reason for this is, is because if there's not....it's never going to grow you and the purpose of a goal is to grow, not get!
If your goal is the right kind of goal, A WORTHY GOAL, you're not going to know how to achieve it!
Your logical mind is going to tell you that based on your current circumstances you will not be able to achieve it. This is why SO many people give up on their dreams because they base their going after the goal on the premise that they do not have the necessary skills and or resources needed to achieve it. They get inspired one minute and the next, it fizzles and go back to settling on what they think they can achieve!
Don't be that person!
Look, when you set your big, lofty, scary goal despite having no idea how to achieve it, chaos is going to run rampant in your mind and body because it goes against everything you know to be true. You don't have the time, you don't have the money, you don't know the people, hell- you don't even know what the first thing it is you need to do!
At the Proctor Gallagher Institute, we call this the terror barrier! When you come face to face with fear, doubt and worry you have two choice! Settle, forget the goal, go back to something less challenging OR bust through it! I'm all for the ladder!
When we experience worry, doubt or fear (being uncomfortable) we cancel the call, we flake out on the event, we ditch the thing that will move us forward and we start to settle!
But the thing is, you don't have to! This means YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK, in fact! Putting a goal out there that scares the daylights out of you is THE sign you are looking for that tells you that you're exactly where you need to be!
On the other side of that terror barrier, on the other side of taking that risk, will give you everything you've ever dreamed of, EVERY TIME!
So sure, your score may be perfect because you've been settling but it's not going to change just because you've set a goal so high it makes your knees shake and your palms sweat! When you push beyond your comfort zone even if you "fail", you're going to learn something and then that is the building block to adjust your sails and continue on.
Keep going! Choose a worthy goal!
Bet on yourself, because when you do, you are going to astonish yourself by what you're capable of! Keep your eye on the prize no matter what outside circumstances tell you! Bust through that Terror Barrier and get ready for the ride of your life!
